The Convents Route
 

The municipalities of Tlayacapan, Yecapixtla, Ocuituco, Tetela del Volcán, Zacualpan de Amilpas and Temoac are located in The Convents route in the State of Morelos, Mexico. Surrounded by an exuberant landscape, this area can be compared to the beauty of a Swiss scenery and is worthy of admiring. The extravagant nature of these places turns the land resources into fruit trees. The majestic XVI century monasteries contrast with the green color of vegetation and on the background stands the Popocatepetl volcano haughty as a faithful guard of this region.

Yecapixtla

"Where the thin air blows"

Yecapixtla in the State of Morelos, Mexico, is a beautiful town that was conquered by Moctezuma between 1440 and 1460. During its conquest the Spanish and natives fought a great battle. In 1529, Charles V left this town to Hernan Cortes.

Yecapixtla is also very popular for its delicious "cecina" or cured meat, one of Mexico's famous traditional dishes.

Yecapixtla main festivity is the "tianguis" or market day which takes place on the last Friday in October.


Ocuituco

Church in Ocuituco, Morelos, MexicoThe beautiful town of Ocuituco in the State of Morelos, Mexico, is the place where in 1533, the first XVI century Augustinian convent was built. Ocuituco is also very popular because of its great diversity of traditions and customs which are revealed in its religious celebrations.


Tetela del Volcan

"The place where the ground is stony"

Cold weather and incomparable beauty of its XVI century architecture are typical of Tetela del Volcan in the State of Morelos, Mexico. Tetela del Volcan served as the first secular parish in Morelos and later on became the convent of San Juan Bautista under the influence of Augustinian and Dominican orders. Church in Tetela del Volcan, Morelos, MexicoThe Amatzinac River flows through Tetela del Volcan and cascades down the northern part of the village. Together with all this the Popocatepetl stands firm as a gift to the visitor.

The presence of fruit trees such as plums, figs and others, give the air a fresh fragrance. The fabrication of woolen clothing is characteristic of the town of Hueyapan.


Zacualpan

Zaculapan ex-convent of La Concepcion was established in the XVI century by the Augustinian order and is an example of the village's architecture. The chapel has two extraordinary "retablos" or altarpieces of baroque style architecture.


Temoac
