Kohunlich
 

The archaeological zone of Kohunlich is of Maya culture and is located west of Chetumal, via highway 186 in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Among Kohunlich main archaeological vestiges are:

  • The Temple of the Large Masks

  • The Acropolis

  • The Building of the Steles

  • The Ball Game (a popular ceremonial game in pre-Hispanic Mexico)

Among the most important discoveries found at Kohunlich ceremonial center are masks which represent the belief that the sun granted life.
