Ekbalam

Ekbalam was founded in the year 100 BC, it probably was one of the most powerful Pre-Hispanic Mayan cities, economically, religiously and socially speaking. It reached the height of its power during the Late Classical period (600-1000 AC).
You will also find a ball court, an important series of roads and other monuments. The original wells they built are called "cheltunes". The structures show various architectural styles and influences. These include Puuc influence, from the western coast of Campeche State. There are also some details, such as winged idols resembling angels, that are unique in this site.
In Ekbalam you will also see statues, masks, figurines and hieroglyphs. Ekbalam Archaeological Site is opened daily from 8am to 5 pm.
