Mayapan

Mayapan is an interesting archaeological zone only 10 km from the preceding place by the same highway in the State of Yucatan, Mexico.

This walled city has 4,000 mounds of which 6 are in different stages of advanced restoration. Its the same size than Chichen-Itza and you will find the buildings are replicas of the ones in Chichen.

Also you will observe many mounds in their original state (covered with trees, shrubs, etc.) and others in transformation with the archaeologists actually working on them.

In Mayapan you can visit some outstanding buildings such as:

• El Caracol

• El Castillo

• El Oratorio

• Las Columnas where there are still some masks of the
  God Chaac
